Living in a Boarding House

Most students find the experience of sharing a room, living together with many other friends and taking active part in the boarding houses to be both challenging and fun. The lessons in human nature, the friendships developed and the memories recalled. The House Masters and House Mistresses along with their capable staff are ready at all times to help the students make the most of their boarding house experience.

Efforts are made to provide tasty, balanced and hygienic food to the students. The fixed menu offers a variety of foods. It is changed on monthly basis according to the liking of the students.

The rooms are serviced daily. Facilities for personal washing and iron are available on the premises.

Student Health Services

The students are encouraged to develop healthy life styles. Modernage has acquired the services of a registered physician which include general care of illness and injury, physical examinations, laboratory services, immunizations, nutrition information, health maintenance and referrals to health care specialists/hospitals. The medical bills are drawn in the quarterly fee at the end of the quarter. To avoid unnecessary worry and botheration to the parents only serious and prolonged illness cases are brought into their knowledge.

Evening & Weekend Programs

For the residential students coaching classes are arranged in the evening as well. The students are given assistance in their difficulties and guided to organize their study routines.

Besides studies, the weekends and evenings are often busy with special events ranging from lectures and films to sporting events and workshops. Special training sessions, discussions, religious activities and seminars are a regular feature. Educational and recreational one-day trips of students are arranged every month.

Correspondence

The schedule of activities clearly points out the days on which the parents/guardians of boarders may visit their children. On the visit days the boarders are allowed to proceed for an outing with the parents/guardians. The parents/guardians are not allowed to meet their children/wards during the class hours. The parents/guardians must submit in writing the names and full addresses of the relatives/friends who are authorized to meet their children. If a relative/friend whose name has not been given in advance wishes to see a boarder, he/she must carry a letter of authority from the parents for this purpose.

The mobile phones of boarders are kept in the custody of the House Master. They are allowed to use them only for one hour daily from Monday to Thursday and for longer times on weekends. In case of an emergency the parents/guardians may contact the school Principal or the House Master at any time on telephone.

Pocket Money

Children up to class 10 are not allowed to have any cash on them. Pocket money of Rs 1500/ per term may be deposited by the parents/guardians with the House Master/House Mistress in charge, or sent through a crossed bank draft/cheque to the Principal. In each case a proper receipt will be issued. A separate account of each child is maintained by the House Master /Mistress.

Religious Education

Islamiat is taught as a compulsory subject for all Muslim students. The morning assembly opens with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by its translations in Urdu and English. On all occasions of religious importance, the opportunity is taken to organize such activities that will promote tolerance and spirit of mutual understanding in the students as individuals. Prayers are offered regularly in the Ali Muhammad Mosque. Full time Qaris teach Hifz and Nazra to the students. The Non-Muslim students are respected and free to practice their beliefs. They are given holidays on their religious festivals.

Co-Curricular Activities

Modernage conducts a number of co-curricular activities all through the year. All the students are allotted houses through which an extremely healthy competition is generated. A number of events like debates, dramas, singing, painting, speeches, fancy dress shows, etc are initiated through the houses.

Students are supported in the planning and execution of these activities. These educational, social and cultural programs enable Modernage to raise leadership qualities, spirit of co-operation and understanding and an awareness of cultural diversity among the young Modernites. They provide the entire college community not only a chance of participation but also of developing friendships. The students are taught to bear in their minds that an individual’s skill level is not as important as the desire to participate and enjoy.

Modernage aims to achieve excellence in sports and athletics. Students are given chances to participate in sporting events for personal enjoyment, the love of competition and healthy exercise.

There are teams of various games like badminton, squash, table tennis, lawn tennis, cricket, hockey, football, handball, netball, basketball and volleyball. These teams participate in inter house and inter college events. A special team of trained physical instructors and coaches is available at all times to provide assistance to the students participating in various events. Besides, students are also encouraged in Karate and athletics.

Career Counseling

Modernage provides assistance in career planning especially to college students. The aim of the career planning is to aid the students in making educated decisions regarding the selection of courses and analyzing their individual skills and interests. Career Day is held in which renowned universities are invited to guide the students about their programs.

Emotional & Psychological Counseling

Modernage provides emotional and psychological counseling to the students. Through individual counseling and group programs the students get a chance to learn how to change self-defeating behaviour, manage anxiety and depression, and improve relationships. A personal and confidential response to students’ needs is provided and these services are free of charge.

Collecting Boarders for Vacation

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians/authorized representatives to arrange collection of their children/wards at the time the school closes for vacation. However, pick and drop facility can be provided to children leaving from Islamabad/Peshawar airport, if informed at least 7 days earlier. After the holidays, the boarders must return positively on the appointed date and time.
