Pre-Primary: The Blissful Years

The Pre-Primary or the Early Years Program at Modernage is covered in three years namely:

  • Playgroup: for Students 3 years and above
  • Nursery: for Students 4 years and above
  • Prep: for Students 5 years and above

Almost 14% students at Modernage are part of the Pre-Primary Program. They are provided high quality personal care and learning experiences. Early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. The mental and physical abilities of the child grow at an astounding rate. Hence, at Modernage, the curiosity of children is nurtured in a safe and happy learning environment.

The smooth transition of children from Pre-Primary to Primary level is ensured by development of their basic Mathematical skills as well as their oral and written expression in English and Urdu. The play way method includes use of music, art, outdoor play, nature walks, games, role playing, storytelling and much more.

Objectives

At Modernage, the ECE objectives are aligned with the National Curriculum of Pakistan. They are to:

  • Playgroup: for Students 3 years and above
  • help the child develop his or her potential to learn and grow
  • provide an appropriate environment to ensure his or her safety and holistic development
  • use play way method and concrete experience in teaching and learning
  • prepare a child for formal schooling
  • develop awareness of basic cultural values and norms

The Key Learning Areas:
The curriculum of early years has been divided into the following key learning areas:

  • Playgroup: for Students 3 years and above
  • Area 1: Personal, Social and Health Education
  • Area 2: Language and Literacy
  • Area 3: Basic Mathematical Concepts
  • Area 4: The World Around Us
  • Area 5: Physical Development
  • Area 6: Creative Arts

The Montessori Triangle
Modernage believes that the Montessori triangle of the child – environment – teachers:

  • Extends beyond the teacher and includes parents and the wider community, without undermining the key role the school plays in putting the child freely and independently into contact with the environment facilitates opportunities for extending the children’s development and learning in and beyond the classroom.
  • Facilitates opportunities for extending the children’s development and learning in and beyond the classroom.

 

The most significant relationship in the triangle is that between the child and the environment.

Primay Program: The Learning Years

The Primary Program at Modernage is covered in five years namely:

  • Grade I: for students 6 years and above
  • Grade II: for students 7 years and above
  • Grade III: for students8 years and above
  • Grade IV: for students 9 years and above
  • Grade V: for students10 years and above

Almost 29% students at Modernage are part of the Primary Program. These student are provided an environment in which they develop their academic competencies as well as discover their unique potentials. They learn to work in groups by sharing and cooperating with each other.

Objectives

At Modernage, the objectives of Primary Program are aligned with the National Curriculum of Pakistan. They are to:

  • provide strong foundations in core subjects i.e. languages, Math and Science
  • develop communication skills of the child to such a level that they can communicate their ideas and needs with fluency
  • create independent, confident, self-assured and polite individuals
  • ensure social, physical, cultural and ethical development of the child
  • create awareness about personal hygiene and self-care as well as care for environment
  • inculcate a sense of citizenship and acceptance for cultural diversity

Subjects

The primary program covers subjects such as English, Urdu, Math, General Knowledge (Grade I to III), General Science (Grade IV & V), Social Studies (Grade IV & V), Islamic Studies including Nazra, Art, Physical Education, IT and Robotics. Specialized equipment are used to integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) Learning in the Primary Curriculum. It encourages the youngsters to become creative problem solvers and smart individuals of the 21st century. The hands-on activities are fun for children and encourage collaborative learning.

Outcomes

At the end of the Primary Program, the Modernites emerge as confident and self-reliant individuals who are courteous and polite in disposition. Their competence in core subjects i.e. languages, Math and Science is broad based. Experiential learning has enabled them to go beyond the four walls of the classroom. Attractive teaching methodologies have nurtured their creativity and curiosity.

Sub Seniors: The Dexterous Years

The Sub-Seniors or the Middle Years Program at Modernage is covered in three years namely:

  • Grade VI: for students 11 years and above
  • Grade VII: for students 12 years and above
  • Grade VIII: for students 13 years and above

Almost 20% children at Modernage are part of the Sub-Seniors Program. At this level, the students are encouraged to take greater responsibility of their learning and prepare themselves to meet the demands of highly competitive and challenging years ahead. Instead of rote-learning and cramming, developing an understanding for the concepts is the primary focus.

Objectives:

The objectives of the Sub-Seniors Program are to:

  • create independent learners who read extensively and make an effort to express their ideas in their own words
  • enable learners to use appropriate academic language and present their thoughts in an organized style
  • equip learners with skills of collecting, organizing, analyzing, displaying, and interpreting data and information in order to reach reasonable conclusions
  • sensitize the children to examine real life situations by identifying scientifically valid arguments and drawing conclusions to enhance their critical thinking
  • engage students in sports and co-curricular activities that provide them ample chances of connecting with their physical and spiritual self

Subjects:

The Sub-Seniors Program covers subjects such as English, Urdu, Math, General Science, Social Studies, Islamic Studies, Mutala-e-Quran, Art, Health & Physical Education, Computer Science and Robotics. From Grade VI onwards, the children can choose to be a part of the Cambridge Stream or the Matric Stream. All teaching methodologies are targeting the development of 21st Century Skills i.e. Communication, Collaboration, Creativity and Critical Thinking. Self-discipline and self-directed learning are also emphasized. The children are encouraged to develop an opinion about the real-world problems and to actively use learning strategies to attain the attributes of the Profile of Modernites.

Outcomes:

At the end of the Sub-Seniors Program, the Modernites emerge as proactive individuals who have knowledge of their strengths and weaknesses in various subject areas, who are well rooted in their cultural and social environment and at the same time respect global diversity, who attach equal importance to science and art, and who are digitally competent.

Seniors: The Winning Years

The Seniors Program at Modernage is covered in four years namely:

  • Grade IX:   for students 14 years and above
  • Grade X:    for students 15 years and above
  • Grade XI:  for students 16 years and above
  • Grade XII: for students 17 years and above

Almost 29% students at Modernage are part of the Seniors Program. This is a decisive time in a child’s life as it sets foundations for choosing a career path. Expert teachers of Modernage help the learners to overcome the numerous challenges they face in academics or in the social, personal and emotional spheres of their lives.

The students who choose the Matric Stream, acquire Secondary School Certificate Qualification at the end of Grade X while at the end of Grade XII they are awarded Higher Secondary School Certificate Qualification. Both qualifications are availed by passing external exam conducted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Abbottabad or Federal Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad. However, those students who choose the Cambridge Stream, receive O-Levels and A-Levels Qualification after being examined by the Cambridge Board in Grade X and Grade XII respectively.

Objectives:

The objectives of the Seniors Program are to:

  • assist the students in acquiring academic skills that help them to excel in the Board Exams
  • ensure that the students get placements in universities and professional colleges of their choice
  • provide comprehensive Career Counselling that enables them to identify their strengths and thus choose a career path that makes them happy and productive
  • create self-motivated, self-directed learners who have a strong character and depth of vision
  • help the students in developing a pleasing personality having a desire to serve the humanity
  • develop a mindset in youngsters that supports them in facing challenges of the present world

Subjects

The Seniors Program in Grade IX & X covers nine subjects namely English, Urdu, Math, Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, Mutala-e-Quran, Computer Science/Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

In Grade XI & XII (Inter Part I & II), English, Urdu Mutala-e-Quran and Islamic Studies are taught as compulsory subjects. The students can choose any one of the following combinations for three elective subjects:

  • F.Sc Pre-Medical (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • F.Sc Pre-Engineering (Physics, Chemistry, Math)
  • F.Sc Computer Science (Physics, Math, Computer)

Both in Matric as well as Inter, the Non-Muslim students can study Ethics instead of Islamic Studies while students coming from abroad can opt to study Pakistani Culture instead of Urdu.

Outcomes

Throughout the four years of Seniors Program, the learners at Modernage are provided ample opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and attitudes. They frequently meet professionals from all walks of life, participate in seminars, debating competitions, art events, conventions and exhibitions. Their academic progress is constantly monitored through written tests conducted at regular intervals. Besides, they participate in multi-dimensional co-curricular activities and sports and gain international exposure through youth exchange programs. They develop a deep understanding of what career options they have in front of them.
